Dr Katarzyna Matczyszyn

Position:

Associate Professor, Advanced Materials Engineering and Modelling Group, Faculty of Chemistry, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Erasmus Mundus Master of Excellence coordinator at Faculty of Chemistry, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology

Background:

Physical Chemistry, Biophotonics, Nonlinear Optics

Obtained her PhD at Wroclaw University of Science and Technology under the supervision of prof. J. Sworakowski in the field of physical chemistry specializing in photochromic reactions inducing phase transitions in liquid crystals. First post-doctoral training in the CLiq group of prof. J.M. Oton in Politecnica de Madird in the field of antiferroelectric liquid crystal displays in the frame of the UE Sampa project, then in Commissariat a l’energie atomique CEA Saclay under the supervision of prof. F.Kajzar and C. Fiorini-Debuisschert studing photochromic gratings for applications in photovoltaic cells and nonlinear optics. Next post-doctoral contract with prof. A-J. Attias from Universite Pierre et Marie Curie Paris 6 Laboratoire de chimie des polymers and Institute de NanoScience de Paris to set-up and test the time-of-flight experiment of liquid crystals for applications in organic electronics. Afterwards, ATER position (teaching and research assistant) at Ecole Normale Superieure de Cachan in the group of prof. K. Nakatani – teaching physics to chemists and chemistry to physicist and working on non-linear optical properties of photochromic compounds. Since 2008 prof. M. Samoc group member working on nonlinear optical properties of molecules and materials of biological significance (DNA liquid crystals, photochromic molecules, plasmonic nanoparticles, photosensitizers etc.).

Co-author of about 80 peer-reviewed papers.
