Interactive general public conference – Photodynamic therapy: an anti-cancer therapeutic alternative

The University of Limoges is setting up a cycle of interactive public lectures. The first will deal with photodynamic therapy: an anti-cancer therapeutic alternative. It will be led by Bertrand Liagre, Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Limoges, and will take place on Thursday February 13, 2020 at 7:00 pm, Salle de Cinéma at Carrefour des Etudiants, 88 rue du Pont St Martial in Limoges.

Despite advances in medical research into cancer treatments, many side effects persist in patients as well as the emergence of resistance to conventional treatments. The development of new anti-cancer therapeutic strategies is therefore necessary in order to improve the management of these patients. Photodynamic therapy using photosensitizers is presented as an innovative therapeutic strategy greatly limiting these undesirable side effects and has been approved for the treatment of certain cancers.

Professor Bertrand Liagre is Head of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Researcher in the PEIRENE laboratory of the University of Limoges. His research theme is centered on photodynamic therapy and anti-cancer cell signaling. He is the author and co-author of 73 international publications and 71 international communications. In addition, for 10 years, he has been a visiting professor and lecturer in Lebanon.
Conference open to all.
